Forbury Gardens Statement – Saturday 20th June

The team at Reading Refugee Support Group is shocked and saddened by the tragic and senseless deaths of James Furlong, David Wails and Joe Ritchie-Bennett. We attended the vigil on Saturday 27th June in Reading, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the friends, families, and anyone else who has been affected by this terrible tragedy.

Reading Refugee Support Group has worked in Reading for over 25 years and remain committed to supporting refugees and helping them integrate into our community. People who have come to Britain as refugees will be equally horrified but sadly familiar with such violence, having in many cases fled their homes to escape persecution, war, torture and conflict, looking for safety for their families.

We will continue to mourn the loss of three people from our local community, and stand by our colleagues and the refugee community in Glasgow. We will continue to be inspired by the compassion that Reading welcomes refugees and people seeking asylum, as an inclusive, diverse and caring community where we are all proud to work, live and serve.
