ON HER SHOULDERS - READING REFUGEE SUPPORT GROUP FILM FESTIVAL
READING: THU 20TH JUNE | WOKINGHAM: FRI 21ST JUNE | NEWBURY: SUN 23RD JUNE
To mark Refugee Week, and to celebrate both our 25th Anniversary and being awarded The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service, Reading Refugee Support Group proudly present the multi award-winning ‘On Her Shoulders’ followed by a Q&A with Refugees.
The money raised at the events will go towards supporting the independent charity’s continued work with refugees, asylum seekers and people with no recourse to public funds. Refreshments will also be provided at the screenings.
On Her Shoulders
'On Her Shoulders' tells the story of Nadia Murad, a young Yazidi woman who escaped slavery by ISIS and found international fame telling the story of her people on the world stage. Murad's work defending Human Rights has seen her awarded the Nobel Peace Prize; the European Parliament’s Sakharov Prize; and named Glamour’s ‘Woman of the Year’.
The inspiring documentary features prominent human rights lawyer and recent Berkshire resident Amal Clooney, who closely supported Murad, and it has received numerous awards, including Best Director at Sundance Film Festival.
The film screening will be accompanied by a Question & Answer Panel of Refugees discussing the topics raised in the film.
